Randy Rhoads or Eddie Van Halen?
OK, so shoe business guy Eddie Van Halen is filing suit against Nike because they have some new shoes that allegedly look like his old guitar. From KTLA…
Van Halen claims Nike is doing “irreparable harm and damage” to his signature design. He is seeking general and punitive damages, all profits arising from the sales of “Dunk Lows” and a permanent injunction halting production of the Nike shoes.
Van Halen recently launched his own line of striped chucks under his EVH brand.
Sounds serious. Let’s take a look…

Hmmm…maybe when you get in the shoe business, you get delusional.
We all know that Eddie Van Halen has hops. Even with a new hip the guy still has an impressive vertical leap so, it’s a natural for EVH to go in to the shoe business (Shoe Biz?). From The Daily Swarm…
In partnership with New Jersey-based FEA Merchandising, a company specializing in recording-artist merchandise, Van Halen is releasing both high- and low-top canvas sneakers with red, white and black stripes, similar to those the guitarist wears onstage. Like those, the new EVH brand shoes mimic the design of his Frankenstein guitar.
The men’s shoes, which are available for $54 (for low tops) and $59 (for high tops), are also available in black and white as well as black and yellow. The shoes will be sold at EVHgear.com, as well as select department and specialty stores.

Big mark-up on shoes…huge mark-up compared to anything to do with actual music or even music gear. Garments are a great racket in general so, this is a good sign. Hopefully we will see some other guitar hero types getting in to the rag trade; “Steve Vai Brand Briefs”, “Yngwie Brand Casual Slacks”, that sort of thing. Then, maybe, one of these guys can make a go in the fragrance world; “Satch Eau de Toilette”, that’s where the real dough is.
