KISS bass player, Gene Simmons is part of a marketing firm, Simmons Abramson. From Blabbermoth, Simmons poots forth the notion that he is, at the very least, an influential force in the branding community…

“I’m the guy who came up with the ‘I Am Indy’ campaign that IndyCar began using years ago. I also co-wrote (with Bag) the song, ‘I Am Indy’ (”cause I love the way I feel, when I get behind the wheel… I Am Indy’).

“Needless to say, the ‘I Am Indy’ campaign and branding was seen all over the place — on TV (ABC, ESPN and elsewhere)… at every IndyCar race (large ‘I Am Indy’ grass and foliage designs on the racing field)… on stickers, in magazine advertisements, in co-branded ads with Firestone and…. well, all over the place…

…”Soon thereafter, we noticed (and so did the marketing world) — the ‘personalization of large branded campaigns.’

NFL – ‘I Am The NFL’
Disney – ‘I Am Disney’
IAMS (pet food) – ‘I Am Iams’
Jeep (trucks) – ‘I Am Jeep’
The UN (United Nations) – ‘I Am Powerful’
C.A.R.E. – ‘I Am Care’
KROQ (radio station) – ‘I Am KROQ’
Wolverine (clothing) – ‘I Am Wolverine’

And he went on to talk about Simmons Abramson deals gone south with other companies (University of Phoenix, Rogue Films) that stole his idea; “I Am A Phoenix”…”I Am Rogue”.

OK then, let’s reset here. Below, we have a clip featuring the jingle (written with Bag) “I Am Indy”.

As always, make a personal connection and click pause on the music player located in the side bar before playing the YouTube.

Hunh!!??

I am stupefied!

That Gene Simmons, every time he comes across the old Google Reader these days, I got to take a look because he’s going to say something to incite or interest. This stuff is from Billboard.

About the concert biz…

Speaking to an audience of primarily concert promoters, venue officials and booking agents, Simmons warned those in the live entertainment industry that it wouldn’t be wise to lower concert ticket prices. “Don’t do that, you’re training an entire generation of people to pay less for something and then more for something else,” he said. “They won’t know what the value is and they’d rather pay less every time.”

The record biz and the touring biz…

Simmons stressed that the touring business needs to quickly think about the future of its model. “Thank God you’re the last vestiges of a dying breed, because the record industry is already dead, because we trained the people [that] they don’t have to pay for stuff that they used to pay for,” he said. “The record industry allowed that and people are shocked they’re out of business.”

You don’t hear a whole lot of people saying that kind of stuff. Is it better to bury your head in the sand and say it didn’t happen?

And, my favorite, about Kiss not being inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…

“A lot of those guys on the board can go and get my sandwich when I want, and I mean that in the nicest way,” he said. “There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not Kiss. I believe we have more gold records in America than any other group, but it’s OK.”

Go and get my sandwich!! Man, that’s funny right there. Hey Jann, light on the mayo.
