I don’t know why but, I am fascinated with Antarctica.
I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie. But, I may have to get past my hermit like tendency and go to see this new Werner Herzog documentary, “Encounters at the End of the World”. From Variety.
Herzog begins at the populated research center McMurdo Station, with its yoga studios and ATMs, and journeys deeper into the vast landscape of the South Pole.
Like I say, I don’t go to a lot of movies so, I couldn’t sit and discuss the nuances of style particular to different filmmakers. But, I have seen some of Herzog’s work, well one film, “Grizzly Man”.
Have you seen “Grizzly Man”? This was a movie I saw on some cable network and I went around for weeks saying; “You got to see this crazy ass movie”, to everyone I encountered. I never do that. “Grizzly Man” is about this guy, Timothy Treadwell, who went to live with the grizzly bears; be their friend and protect them. He seemed to see himself as some kind of noble warrior instead of a nut. In the end, he was eaten by a bear-go figure. Along the way, he filmed his experience and Herzog took all that footage, and his own after the fact stuff and made a great, unsettling movie.
Here is the “Grizzly Man” trailer if you have never seen it.
