As It Turns Out Guitar Hero Did Not Save The Music Industry

February 10, 2011 · Posted in guitar hero, News · Comment

That’s right, Activision is dumping the game…

“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011,” the company confirmed. “These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”

Instead of the bonanza of yore, Guitar Hero is now calculatingly being regarded as a “low-margin, low potential business.”

“low-margin, low potential”…ouch!

But seriously, remember a couple years ago when morons we spewing all that “games like Guitar Hero will save the music biz” jive.

Oh well, at least your 12-year-old knows all the lyrics to “War Pigs”.

Activision, by the way, will be committing their resources to Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. I guess war has a better margin and upside than rockin’ dude….

Pump Up Your Guitar Hero Game

Hey take a look at this. What do you suppose this thing is?

altec-stage-gig-speaker

Well, that looks like a heavy duty, powered stage monitor. The kind of monitor that some musicians/singers insist on using so they can turn their stage volume up any time they want to. The kind of stage monitor that inevitably works during sound check but, produces horrendous high end feedback during the show and ruins the complete mix because some putz keeps turning it whenever they want to.

Wrong.

That is the new Altec Lansing Stage-Gig amplified speaker. It’s made specifically to work with your Guitar Hero and Rock Band type video games!

Unleash your star power and feel the electricity of the stage with the Stage-Gig amplified speaker. Designed to work with just about any gaming console, the Stage-Gig puts out 40 Watts of power. With a 6.5” woofer every note is catapulted with awesome clarity, huge bass and epic volume. Add another speaker for full force sound to blast your anthems. Rough and ready to move, the Stage-Gig‘s handle means it can be carried wherever you take to the stage. Let your inner rock star roar!

Inner rock star, yes, yes, yes. Actually, it could be a real genius move by Altec Lansing. This could spawn a whole new line of Guitar Hero/Rock Band outboard gear. Compressors, 32 band EQ, Aural Exciter, Feedback Eliminator, multi-effects…all the same stuff they’ve been selling to real musicians…Brilliant!

And, it could even open up the door for Guitar Hero/Rock Band sound guys!

uhh…testing…thump……SQUEAL….can I get a little more of me in the monitors Butch?
