After The Flood has a post about Nils Lofgren’s new record “The Loner – Nils Sings Neil” which is Nils’ take on the Neil Young songbook.
Nils worked with Neil most notably on “After The Gold Rush” but most interestingly on the underrated “Tonight’s The Night”.
Lofgren is an all around, genuine guitar player. The Crazy Horse stuff is good, The Neil stuff is good, the Grin stuff is good, the solo stuff is good, the Bruce Springsteen stuff is good; can’t stump Nils. He got the chops but doesn’t let them get in the way of a good song.
Here’s a link to an MP3 of Nils doing “Mr. Soul” which features some nice, chunky, solo acoustic guitar playing and a vocal that, for some reason, brings Harry Chapin to mind. Nice piece of work.
