I hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

One thing that was in my stocking was this new record by Doyle Bramhall, “Is It News“.

That’s Doyle Bramhall Sr., by the way, not Doyle Bramhall 2, his son, who you may have seen with Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan or a host of others.

Anyway, I’ve listened to the C.D. a couple of times today and I’m digging it. Doyle is a great groove drummer. He writes songs that stay within familiar types of frameworks but always bring new wrinkles. I once heard Stevie Ray Vaughan say that he learned to sing from listening to Doyle. Makes sense. It’s a good record, you should check it out.
