Ken Griffey Jr. hit career home run #600 tonight.

When I was a kid, there were three guys that had ever hit 600, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Back then, before steroids, 500 was something really special. 500 was a mortal lock. Now 500 is peppered with some unscrupulous characters and and you have Sosa and Bonds above them.

600 is still special and Griffey is one of the good guys.

Here is a quote from Joe Posnanski’s blog.

There’s a baseball agent I know who has been with Ken Griffey Jr. from the start, from before the start. One day, Ken Griffey Sr. said to him: I trust you, and I would like you to represent my son. They have been together now for 20 years, through glory and injury and a few boos, through frustration and joy and impossibly bright lights and 600 home run trots.

“Has he changed at all?” I asked the agent. He thought about it for a moment.

“Not really,” he said.

Go read what Joe has to say, it’s guaranteed to warm your heart.
