I get a list of music related press releases sent to me every morning. I skim through them, usually not much there that’s interesting. So, this morning, right off the bat, this headline jumps out at me.

Kung Fu Heavy Metal Band from Finland Releases Newest Single

You got to take a look at that right? I’m always on the lookout for a new gimmick an angle and, I’ve never heard of a Kung Fu band before. Much less a Kung Fu Heavy Metal Band. Much less a Kung Fu heavy metal band from Finland. You got to check that out, right?

The summary line says this….

Hailing from Finland, the worlds original Kung-Fu Metal band Black Temple is set to release their newest single “Party Material”. The distinctive band was founded by Finnish/Thai composer, lyricist, singer, and guitarist Tang.

“Party Material”, good title. Kung Fu, Finland, Heavy Metal, Black Temple (sounds kind of Biblical and Evil), and a dude named after an astronaut breakfast drink! Are you kidding me! Tell me more!

Sounds like:
80’s disco, Rammstein, Rob Zombie and Cradle Of Filth. Lyrics are about realities in life, facts of making mistakes and wanting to make it up, addiction in something and being in icy painful situations … poems full of sarcasm, with definitely more than one meaning.

80’s Disco! Cradle Of Filth! Icy painful situations!! Woah!!! This just gets better and better. But, where’s the Kung Fu? That’s what really got my interest because there are other cats out there doing the whole Finland, 80’s disco, Rob Zombie, sarcastic, icy painful bit-I want, need to know how Kung Fu works in to all of this. Do they wear the robe/belt outfit, kick people’s asses and break cinder blocks with their heads on stage? That’s the kind of thing I’m looking for. So, I went to the Black Temple MySpace page hoping that it would answer this question; Where’s the Kung Fu? A MySpace page, not even a real website, that’s usually a dead giveaway.

So what do we have?

Promo photo, song sample, bunch of friends but, nothing…nothing…no….thing…about Kung Fu.

Dammit.

They look like a heavy metal band. Not necessarily one from Finland, I mean they could be from Cleveland. The song does sound like 80’s disco, Rammstein, Rob Zombie and Cradle Of Filth…I guess but, sadly nothing about Kung Fu.

So, Tang old buddy, you got my attention here, and I haven’t written your project off but, and I realize that you are still putting this whole thing together man, you going to have to show us what we want, what we need, what we crave….SHOW US THE FU!
