Songs that were written as instrumentals that later had lyrics added; you don’t see that much anymore. A lot of times it doesn’t pan out very well, I think. A lot of times I like the instrumental better.
“Work Song”, composed by Nat Adderly is an exception. I played this song in different bands over the years before I was aware that there was a version with lyrics.
The first clip is the Cannonball Adderly sextet (w/Nat Adderley, Louis Hayes, Sam Jones, Joe Zawinul, Yusef Lateef) performing on Oscar Brown’s Jazz Scene. Brown wrote the lyrics, as noted by Cannonball but, does not sing them on this version.

Don’t know who the guitarist is but, I love that solo.
