Alright, here’s the deal. I’m gonna be honest with you. I’ve been putting these cheesy gig announcements for, I don’t know, 8-10 months something like that. I think it’s kind of silly because, who goes to a musician’s web page and says, “Oh, so and so is at the Bucket of Blood on Friday. Honey, why don’t we call the Davenports and just have a wing ding?” Nobody does that, I know that. But, all of my many musician friends were coming to me and getting on my ass because I wasn’t announcing the gigs. “You got to put your gigs up there, you idiot!” You Moron! You MAROON!
So, I figure, what the hell, can’t hurt. But, I would have thought, that in all this time, somebody, anybody would, at some point, walk up to me while I was on break and say, “I saw that you guys were going to be playing here on your little blog, I thought that thing about that guy eating the cat was sort of funny”. But, no. Not once. I gotttttt….nothing.
But, I still keep doing these goofy announcements, “Hey, come on out, it’ll be fun! Great food! Big dance floor! Bring the kids!
Now, I realize that most of you are from outside of the area and, you aren’t going to plan a vacation in the Ozarks around a Thirst N’ Howl gig….well hold on, just a second. You know what? You ought to.
I took those shots from the neighboring dock this morning a little before 7:00. I went for an early walk because it was pushing 80 degrees at 4:30! Oh yeah, this isn’t Branson either. It’s across the lake from Branson. Branson is…touristy but, it’s not far. A lot of folks stay over on this side and go in to Branson to see a show or, whatever else they do over there, I don’t know like go to the Outback Pub for instance. Anyway, off the track, I know but, there’s always room for some area promotion and superfluous photos taken during one of my walks.
Anyway, as I was saying…Now, I realize that most of you are from outside of the area and, you aren’t going to plan a vacation in the Ozarks around a Thirst N’ Howl gig but, I know for a fact that there are quite a few readers that are within easy driving distance of these gigs. I know you’re out there Nixa, Ozark, Springfield, Highlandville, Blue Eye, Forsythe, Reeds Spring, Galena, Cape Fair, Aurora, Rogersville. I know you’re out there and, like I say, these gig announcements are an inefficient way to get the word around but, my guess is that some of you have shown up and didn’t say anything about reading about it here.
I figure that what’s going on here is, you don’t want to say anything about it in front of your friends while you are trying to look cool at the nightclub. I know that if you were to walk up to me and, in front of your peeps say something like, “Oh, I just have to tell you, I’m a big fan of your blog, I read it every day. That’s why I talked all of my friends in to coming out to see the fabulous Thirst N’ Howl band because, I read about it on your blog“. That’s pretty dorky.
So, here’s what I have in mind; We have some pretty talented and creative people around here. Hell, they even started writing a three act rock opera in the comments sections. So, I figure we ought to come up with like a secret handshake or, some kind of signal. Something that will allow you, to let me know that you heard about one of these rooty-poot little gigs from reading my blog, that will also allow you to still appear urbane in front of your pals.
How ’bout it.
11:30 P.M. and I haven’t blogged all day. Seems a little strange, like there’s a void. I’ve been working on a “project” that’s been taking up a good bit of time. I thought I would have a chance to finish it up last night but, yesterday afternoon, I got the call that there was a chance for Thirst N’ Howl to play at the Outback Pub over in Branson. So, we grabbed it.
Short notice, no problem. Got to the gig and, right as we were loading in a monster rain storm hit. Pouring down and still hot as hell. It’s a good bunch of troopers, this bunch. Boyd, Tom and I went to IHOP after the gig. It dawned on us that it was the first time we officially broke bread together in the seven months we’ve been working. It was a good bonding moment but, after rolling in around 4:30, and with me having a shorter drive to the house than those guys, it makes more sense that we haven’t done this more often.
I rolled out of the bunk around 11:00 this morning and spent the day on the computer. I’m inclined to think that man’s greatest accomplishment may be the development of air conditioning. Coming back from Joe Bald Market, I heard some guy on the radio, ranting about how environmentalists would have us all living in a new stone age. Take the car, take the computer, take the coffee maker and even the ice cubes but, leave me with my air conditioner.
Cool as a cucumber and signing off.
That’s right folks, Thirst N’ Howl will be, once again returning to the Outback Pub this weekend for, not just one but, TWO full evenings chock full of Party Rock for your listening and dancing pleasure!
