It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted. This is the essence of academicism. There is no such thing as good painting about nothing.

Some cases take later than others. From Breitbart/Canadian Press….
Dutch police have recovered eight valuable paintings, including works by Renoir and Pissaro, 22 years after they were stolen from a gallery.
Prosecutors said in a statement three suspects have been arrested – a 45-year-old German man who lives in Dubai, his 62-year-old mother and a 66-year-old man. All three suspects, whose identities were not released, were due to appear in court Monday.
Hmmm…Dubai again. Somebody has to start looking in to what’s going on over there. A real family gang of international art theives and they’re hanging out in Dubai.
Some of the paintings, which were stolen from the Noortman gallery in the southern city of Maastricht in 1987, were badly damaged by being folded, the Dutch National Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement posted on its website Saturday.
Folded!!?? You can’t do that. You don’t fold a Renoir! Hell, you don’t fold a ‘73 Topps Johnny Bench if you got a lick of sense but, you definitely don’t fold a Renoir.
Prosecutors said police tracked down the works after an attempt was made to sell them to the insurance company that paid out 5 million guilders, or about $3.6 million Cdn, for the paintings after the theft.
And, probably not a good idea to try and sell the paintings to the very insurance company that has already paid a claim on the same paintings…..
Our good friend Gary sent me this one.
From the clearance section at Musician’s Friend; the Fender Masterbuilt Crash Stratocaster Electric Guitar and Pro Jr. Amp Set (Custom Art*)

This Custom Stratocaster electric guitar Masterbuilt by Todd Krause features a custom paint job by today’s foremost pop graffiti artist, John “Crash” Mato. Included with this guitar and amp package is a canvas painting that features a white square where a Pro Junior Amp was sitting on the canvas (the missing artwork is on the amps’ cabinet!) Its two-piece alder body has a urethane finish with a chrome pickguard. The one-piece maple neck has a 10/56 “V” -shaped profile, and a 9-1/2″ radius. Nickel/chrome hardware includes vintage hardware. Of its 3 custom wound Fat ’50s single-coil pickups, the middle pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity to cancel hum.
$9,999.99
Was: $24,500.00

Well, one thing is painfully clear; Musician’s Friend doesn’t have a clue about selling art. You have to sell the artist. Talk about the artist instead of reverse wound, reverse polarity pickups to cancel hum. Because, the person that actually buys this, because it’s art, isn’t going to actually be taking the guitar/amp out to the local tavern for the open mic, drunken brawl, free for all, sign up at the door, jam session.
Further, when selling fine art you don’t make a point of the crazy low low, reduced blow it out of here, clearance aisle price.
Aside from all of that, this is different than what we’ve looked at before. Here we have a guitar that is a component of a larger piece of artwork.
Thoughts?
And regardless of your thoughts on this one you should make a point to check out Bishop FM where, Gary hosts the very excellent Blues Show every Monday from 7pm to 9pm (Great Britain).
