Funny, we were just talking about this song the other day. Apparently, Pete Townshend has cashed out and “My Generation” is also the Pepsi Generation.

From Contact Music

THE WHO’s classic track MY GENERATION has become the new anthem for drinks giant Pepsi’s latest ad campaign.
In the clever new commercial, Pete Townshend’s angry ’60s hit is transformed from a turn-of-the century piano number into a 1920s dinner party tune, to a song from the end of World War Two in the 1940s and a rock ‘n’ roll track from the 1950s, before Roger Daltrey starts belting out the original to accompany footage of a streaker at a 1960s hippie demonstration.
The tune then changes again to match a 1970s disco scene, the birth of hip-hop in the 1980s and the collapse of the Berlin Wall in Germany in the 1990s.

And, apparently the Pepsi Generation is every generation. Pepsi not only needed an anthem they needed a “timeless” anthem. One that has the strength to bear the weight of over 100 years of generational stereotypes.
