I had a rehearsal with TNH last night, got home late stayed up late, woke up this morning feeling good, thinking it was about 7:00 or so. Put the coffee on, started the routine, looked at the clock and, it’s 9:15. Dammit!
Organized though, for once, I had a list of phone calls to make, got to be done today. So, I get started on that, before I’m really in to that mind space, you know? What the hell though, might as well get the coffee flowing while I’m sitting on hold.
So, I’m only batting around .300 on actually reaching people so far, now I’m at the point where I’m waiting for people to get back to me. This is the point where, I go through the mental list of things that I make while driving and such. “I need to remember to look up, so and so”. “Whatever happened to that guy?”
Today, the one that sprang to mind was Elliot Randall. I’ve probably had 50 people, over the years, tell me that Skunk Baxter played the solos on the Steely Dan record, “Reelin’ In The Years”. I love Skunk, Skunk’s great and, while he did play on the record, Elliot Randall is the guy who played those balls out solos. Don’t ask me how I know this stuff.
Anyway, I looked up Elliot Randall and he’s still chunking. Playing great. I’m running out of time here and this gets a little complicated and I may go more into some of it later.
While I was at Elliot’s site, I found a great video of him jamming with another guy I forgot about, Mick Abrahams. Mick is known, among other things, for his band Blodwyn Pig. If you have a St. Louis connection, you will no doubt recognize the pig on this Blodwyn Pig record as the one KSHE copped for their mascot.
Also, while at Randall’s site I found out that one of his guitar teachers was Roy Smeck. I can’t possibly explain Roy Smeck in the time allotted but, you’ll get a bit of an idea.
Now….breathe in Jack.
OK, as always………hit pause on the music player directly to your left when playing the YouTube.
First, Elliot Randall (left) and Mick Abrahams (right, on slide) sitting on the couch, doing a great, impromptu blues jam. On top of some stellar playing, they appear to be having a blast.
Next-I have no idea what movie this is from or, when it was made but, you got to get past the short bit of dialog and watch Roy Smeck play the ukulele. You just got to, trust me.
A couple of gigs going on this weekend, both with the fabulous Thirst N’ Howl.

Friday night we will be back at Key Largo. This is turning into a fun regular event for us. Big dance floor at Key Largo so, put on your Sailin’ Shoes.

Now, Saturday night is going to be a first for me. TNH will be taking the stage at Cruisin’ USA over in Nixa.
Cruisin USA Frozen Custard

That’s right a frozen custard place. These guys put on a series of outdoor shows throughout the summer and, from what I hear, they are pretty big events. I believe that they also have various hot rod clubs/organizations involved. So, it’s a bring the kids, eat some frozen custard, see some cool cars and listen to some rock and roll kind of thing.
That just sounds like good clean fun!
Doesn’t it?
This weekend, Thirst N’ Howl will be doing the Party Rock at Cody’s South. 8:30 start time at Cody’s-Best burgers in Springfield too, by the way.
